Auburn football kicker dealing with a health concern

Redshirt sophomore kicker Alex McPherson of Auburn football is facing a non-injury-related issue as he prepares for his third season with the team. Although Coach Hugh Freeze has expressed concern about McPherson’s health problem, which has yet to be fully diagnosed, he remains optimistic that the kicker will be able to play in the upcoming season.

McPherson, the younger brother of Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, had an impressive 2023 season as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, making all of his field goals and extra points. Rated as the top kicker in the Class of 2022, McPherson’s performance on the field has been noteworthy. However, his current health issue is causing concern for his availability in the upcoming season.

Despite this setback, Auburn is otherwise relatively healthy as they gear up for preseason practices. Redshirt freshman cornerback Tyler Scott will miss the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury, and offensive lineman Tate Johnson is undergoing minor surgery but is expected to be ready by August. Freeze remains optimistic about the team’s overall health going into the new season.
