An arrest was made in connection to a $240,000 robbery that occurred in East Boston earlier this month. Two men were caught using power tools to gain entry into an apartment on Waldemar Ave when Boston Police arrived at the scene of the breaking and entering.
The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Timothy Deconinck of Malden and 59-year-old William Cataldo of Saugus, were arrested at the scene. Deconinck had an outstanding arrest warrant related to a robbery that took place on June 7. Additionally, he was found in possession of a drill, drill bits, and other tools.
In the previous incident, an East Boston man reported being robbed of nearly $250,000 by two individuals impersonating police officers outside his business. The thieves stole the cash and fled in the victim’s black Audi. Boston Police responded to the report and located the abandoned vehicle after searching for it.
Deconinck is facing charges related to the original robbery, including unarmed robbery of a person over 65, carjacking, and impersonating a police officer. He also faces charges of possession of burglarious tools, attempt to commit a crime, defacing property, assault & battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. Cataldo is also facing charges related to possession of burglarious tools, attempt to commit a crime, defacing property, and resisting arrest. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
