The 43-year-old contract soldier was arrested on charges of state treason after being recruited by a fake identity on the social network odnoklassniki.ru. According to the Investigative Committee, the soldier, a junior sergeant with a title, had made contact with an individual believed to be a representative of the Azerbaijani special services through romantic interactions.
The committee stated that between January 2023 and February 2024, the soldier transferred information containing state secrets related to his department to this individual. These actions were deemed to have caused damage to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia.
The soldier confessed to his involvement in the case and was arrested on July 2. Charges were filed against him and a request for his arrest was granted.
