Addressing Health Disparities: The Phoenix Chapter of The Links Hosts Black Wellness Family Expo

According to the American Cancer Society, the Black community has the highest death rate and shortest survival for most types of cancer in the United States. In an effort to change this, the Phoenix chapter of The Links, Incorporated is hosting the Black Wellness Family Expo. This event aims to educate people about their diagnosis and promote awareness of various health conditions, including breast and prostate cancer, kidney disease, and heart health.

The expo will take place at South Mountain Community College, near 24th Street and Baseline Road, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can register online at blackfamilywellnessexpo.org beforehand. Free health screenings, mammograms, and car seat safety checks will be available at the event, along with access to health care information and services. A free lunch will also be provided for participants.

In addition to providing valuable resources for attendees, the expo serves as a reminder that kindness and good deeds are essential in our communities too. If you know someone or a business that deserves recognition for their efforts in promoting wellness or making a positive impact on others, you can share their story on azfamily.com’s Something Good page by clicking ‘Share Your Story’.
